The Gentiles and the Gathering of the Righteous Seed and the Dispersed of the House of Israel. Part 1

AndersOccasional Papers

In the annals of the Isaiah Story we see mentioned again and again the great work of gathering the righteous from the earth. The prophets are very clear when explaining the order of events and the actors in this grand drama. Depending on your religious traditions or prejudices, you may have inherited a wide array of incorrect ideas about this most critical facet of the coming Great and Marvelous Work (GMW) among men. The gathering of Israel is a prominent theme in all of scripture, however, the institutions of religion have overlooked many of the most important details in scripture, preferring instead to promote their own brand of self-serving precepts. In this series of papers, we are not concerning ourselves overmuch with dismantling the false claims of religious societies regarding this subject, rather, we are setting forth what the prophets and Jesus have said about this genuinely heroic epic that will affect every living person on the earth. Anciently, Moses created the quintessential type and shadow for the Isaiah Story when he courageously gathered the children of Israel out of Egypt. In the last days, during the GMW, the One like-unto Moses  (Jehovah) will boldly gather the righteous out of every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, and lead them to places of safety while Jesus gallantly gathers his lost sheep into the same sheep fold for protection (see 3Nep 16). It’s a joint effort where the two Sons will harvest the earth together (Rev 14:14-19) ahead of the Assyrian who will destroy the wicked of the earth including the wicked of the House of Israel. We have expounded on these themes in prior papers. Just because your religious tradition hasn’t told you these things a thousand times before, do not make the mistake of discounting what the scriptures have to say on these highly important matters.

The primary actors in this drama of gathering the righteous are defined in scripture as Jesus and Jehovah and their righteous servants who interact with three distinct groups of people classified as the Gentiles, “the seed,” and the dispersed or desolate of Israel. The Gentiles are of course the righteous Christians who will awaken and repent and believe the GMW when Jehovah stands up among men. They will play an important role in taking the gospel and new records such as The Book of the Lamb of God and the Brass Plates to “the seed” which includes the “seed” of Abraham and Lehi and others of the covenant. The scriptures inform us that the righteous Gentiles (the Christians) will be adopted into the House of Israel and they will be numbered among the “the seed.” Finally, the dispersed or desolate of Israel will be gathered last. They include the lost tribes and others of Israel, some of whom suffer terribly during the GMW until they repent, believe, and arise to be gathered. The gathering of Israel is really that simple. All righteous persons everywhere will have the opportunity to be gathered into the family of the House of Israel. The gathering is based on the covenants God made with Abraham and Lehi and others of His most righteous servants in antiquity. God promised Abraham that his seed would bless the entire earth. And if you carefully search the scriptures concerning God’s covenant and plan with regard to this earth, there is little doubt the gathering of Israel has much to do with the overall covenant made with the righteous souls who agreed to come down into this prison world to labor among the prisoners. That is another theme we have addressed elsewhere.

With this much of an introduction there is one further relevant concept expressed in scripture that we must address. Throughout history God has often led righteous persons away from their cultures and civilizations when those societies have fallen into corruption. Students of holy writ have frequently noted this model expressed by the writers of scripture. Any preconceived notions we may hold regarding the whereabouts or the identity of “the seed” and the dispersed or desolate lost tribes of Israel should be set aside at the outset of this study. That includes tightly held Mormon misconceptions about the seed of Lehi commonly known as Lamanites in the Book of Mormon (BOM). Due to several irresponsible and unfounded statements made by Joseph Smith, most modern Mormons claim the identity of the Lamanites to be that of the Native people of the western hemisphere. There is absolutely no proof in the BOM whatsoever to substantiate this fundamentally flawed belief within the church. Recent DNA testing of many Native Americans for example, proves their haplogroup does not descend from Jews in the Middle East. The traditions of the Native American people themselves, as well as scholarly studies of their migrations and languages, demonstrate that Native Americans migrated from Asia to the Americas and replaced earlier groups. In some regions they most likely replaced the Nephites and Lamanites following their tragic wars of genocide. Go study the source materials if you have questions or doubts.

The surviving righteous descendants of Lehi known as Lamanites or “the seed” in the Book of Mormon (think of the righteous Lamanites known as the people of Ammon for example) were taken elsewhere by God to fulfill the prophecies of scripture regarding Lehi’s “seed” (see Helaman 3:11-12), then they were lost to history. And if righteous Lamanites were led away, we can be quite certain that righteous Nephites were led away also in order to fulfill the prophecies of Nephi regarding his own “seed.” After many generations immersed in other cultures elsewhere on the earth, these people who were led away have probably forgotten their ancestry as the descendants of Lehi and Sariah. Nevertheless, they will be found and gathered as promised. We reiterate that the Lamanites of the BOM are not modern Native Americans as DNA testing has proven. Yet there is no question based on the words of the prophets in both the Bible and Book of Mormon that “the seed” of righteous men such as Abraham and Lehi have been scattered across the earth as have been the lost tribes of Israel. We need not concern ourselves with their whereabouts or their identity. God knows who they are and where they are. They will be discovered and gathered in order to fulfill other prophecies that Jesus spoke about them. For those interested in searching the scriptures about the righteous being led away we offer you these verses as a place to begin your search: 1Nep 17:36-40; 2Nep 5:5-6; 2Nep 10:22; Jac3:3-4; Omni 1:12-13; 3Nep 15: 15&19.

Let us turn to the scriptures and the story of the gathering of Israel. In the BOM, the prophets Nephi and Jacob introduce the reader directly to Isaiah by quoting chapters 48-51 from the book of Isaiah. (See 1Nep 20 & 21 and 2Nep 7 & 8). Those are the first four chapters they discuss from Isaiah’s tremendous prophecy. Have you ever asked yourself why they began with these particular chapters? The answer has everything to do with the content of this paper and the gathering of Israel. Nephi and Jacob were fully aware of the details of the GMW and they were very concerned about the fate of their “seed” and “the seed” of their brethren the Lamanites in the last days. In a nutshell, Isaiah 48 (1Nep 20) tells the story of Jehovah gathering “the seed.” Isaiah 49 (1Nep 21) tells the story of Jesus gathering His Sheep. Note how Jesus’ mother and his special birth is mentioned twice in Isaiah 49. Turning to Isaiah 50 and 51 (2Nep 7 & 8), those chapters tell more of the story of the gathering of Israel and the work of the two Sons of God gathering the righteous. Nephi and Jacob help us to understand the meaning of the words of Isaiah with commentaries that surround the Isaiah chapters. Please read those most helpful commentaries on your own. 1Nephi chapters 19 & 22 will help you understand Isaiah chapters 48 & 49. 2Nephi chapters 6, 9, and 10, will help you understand Isaiah chapters 50 & 51. The gathering of Israel was the paramount theme of importance to Nephi and Jacob when they began to quote from Isaiah and comment on his prophecies. No other topic received a higher billing based on the selection of Isaiah 48-51 as the initial Isaiah chapters included in the BOM. Please search these principle chapters as you seek to fully understand the gathering of Israel.

To really help you envision the details of the gathering in a play-by-play manner we will quote the words of Jesus from 3Nephi chapters 20-22 as he taught the Nephites. We will add the necessary points of clarification in parenthesis based on what all the prophets have said in harmony with each other, so you can easily understand the groups of people involved with the gathering that Jesus is describing. We hope you recognize that Jesus is quoting from Isaiah 52 in the latter verses of chapter 20, and he is quoting from Isaiah 54 in chapter 22. The earlier verses in chapter 20 are Jesus’ commentary on Isaiah as is all of chapter 21 where Jesus also quotes from Micah.

3 Nephi Chapter 20

11 Ye remember that I spake unto you, and said that when the words of Isaiah should be fulfilled–behold they are written, ye have them before you, therefore search them– 12 And verily, verily, I say unto you, that when they shall be fulfilled then is the fulfilling of the covenant which the Father hath made unto his people, O house of Israel. (Here we see God’s people are indeed the House of Israel) 13 And then shall the remnants, which shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the earth (The remnants are the righteous seed that were led away and scattered upon the face of the earth), be gathered in from the east and from the west, and from the south and from the north; and they (the seed) shall be brought to the knowledge of the Lord their God, who hath redeemed them. 14 And the Father hath commanded me (Jesus & Jehovah) that I should give unto you (the seed) this land, for your inheritance. 15 And I say unto you, that if the Gentiles (Christians) do not repent after the blessing which they (Christians) shall receive (the knowledge of the GMW and John’s Book), after they (Christians) have scattered my people—(the Christians missionaries will cause a division among the seed between believers and non-believers) 16 Then shall ye, who are a remnant (the seed) of the house of Jacob, go forth among them (Christians); and ye (the seed) shall be in the midst of them (Christians) who shall be many; and ye (the seed) shall be among them (unbelieving Christians who refuse to accept God in their midst) as a lion among the beasts of the forest, and as a young lion among the flocks of sheep (Jesus’ unrepentant sheep), who, if he goeth through both treadeth down and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver. (These words are in reference to a prophecy of Micah we will discuss below) 17 Thy hand (Jesus and Jehovah) shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off. 18 And I will gather my people (the seed of the House of Israel) together as a man gathereth his sheaves into the floor. 19 For I will make my people (the seed) with whom the Father hath covenanted, yea, I will make thy horn iron, and I will make thy hoofs brass. And thou shalt beat in pieces many people; (This is the Micah prophecy) and I will consecrate their (the seed) gain unto the Lord, and their substance unto the Lord of the whole earth. And behold, I am he (Jesus and Jehovah) who doeth it. 20 And it shall come to pass, saith the Father, that the sword of my justice shall hang over them (Christians) at that day; and except they repent it shall fall upon them (Christians), saith the Father, yea, even upon all the nations of the Gentiles (Christians). 21 And it shall come to pass that I (Jesus and Jehovah) will establish my people (the seed), O house of Israel. 22 And behold, this people (the seed of the House of Israel) will I establish in this land, unto the fulfilling of the covenant which I (Jesus and Jehovah) made with your father Jacob; and it shall be a New Jerusalem. And the powers of heaven shall be in the midst of this people (the seed of the House of Israel); yea, even I will be in the midst of you. 23 Behold, I am he of whom Moses spake, saying: A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass that every soul who will not hear that prophet shall be cut off from among the people. 24 Verily I say unto you, yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have testified of me (Jesus and Jehovah). 25 And behold, ye (the seed of the House of Israel) are the children of the prophets; and ye (the seed of the House of Israel) are of the house of Israel; and ye (the seed of the House of Israel) are of the covenant which the Father made with your fathers, saying unto Abraham: And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. 26 The Father having raised me (Jesus and Jehovah) up unto you (the seed of the House of Israel) first, and sent me to bless you in turning away every one of you from his iniquities; and this because ye (the seed of the House of Israel) are the children of the covenant– 27 And after that ye (the seed of the House of Israel) were blessed then fulfilleth the Father the covenant which he made with Abraham, saying: In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed–unto the pouring out of the Holy Ghost through me upon the Gentiles (Christians), which blessing upon the Gentiles (Christians) shall make them mighty above all (mighty missionaries to the seed), unto the scattering of my people —(the Christians missionaries will cause a division among the seed between believers and non-believers), O house of Israel. 28 And they (the believing seed of the prophecy of Micah) shall be a scourge unto the people of this land (the unbelieving Christians). Nevertheless, when they (the Christians) shall have received the fulness of my gospel, then if they (unbelieving Christians) shall harden their hearts against me I will return their iniquities upon their own heads, saith the Father. 29 And I (Jesus and Jehovah) will remember the covenant which I have made with my people (the seed of the House of Israel); and I have covenanted with them (the seed of the House of Israel) that I would gather them together in mine own due time, that I would give unto them again the land of their fathers for their inheritance, which is the land of (New) Jerusalem, which is the promised land unto them forever, saith the Father (The seed of the House of Israel will Build the New Jerusalem). 30 And it shall come to pass that the time cometh, when the fulness of my gospel shall be preached unto them (the seed of the House of Israel); 31 And they shall believe in me, that I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and shall pray unto the Father in my name. (At this point, Jesus begins to quote from Isaiah chapter 52) 32 Then shall their watchmen (the seed of the House of Israel) lift up their voice, and with the voice together shall they sing; for they shall see eye to eye (The believing Christians and believing seed will see eye to eye). 33 Then will the Father gather them together again (the seed and Christians who are numbered with the seed), and give unto them (New) Jerusalem for the land of their inheritance. 34 Then shall they break forth into joy–Sing together (all believing seed and Christians), ye waste places of Jerusalem; for the Father hath comforted his people (the believers), he hath redeemed Jerusalem. 35 The Father hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of the Father; and the Father and I are one (Jehovah and Jesus). 36 And then shall be brought to pass that which is written: Awake, awake again, and put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O (New) Jerusalem, the holy city, for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean (Zion will be established). 37 Shake thyself from the dust; arise, sit down, O (New) Jerusalem; loose thyself from the bands of thy neck (the awakening process and dropping all traditions of men), O captive daughter of Zion. 38 For thus saith the Lord: Ye have sold yourselves for naught, and ye (The believing Seed and Christians) shall be redeemed without money. 39 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that my people (The believing Seed and Christians) shall know my name; yea, in that day they shall know that I am he (Jehovah and Jesus) that doth speak. 40 And then shall they (The believing Seed and Christians) say: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him (Jehovah and Jesus) that bringeth good tidings unto them, that publisheth peace (the new sacred scriptures); that bringeth good tidings unto them of good, that publisheth salvation (the new sacred scriptures); that saith unto Zion: Thy God reigneth (Jehovah and Jesus)! 41 And then shall a cry go forth: Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch not that which is unclean; go ye out of the midst of her (the gathering of Israel); be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord. 42 For ye shall not go out with haste nor go by flight; for the Lord will go before you (Jesus), and the God of Israel shall be your rearward (Jehovah). 43 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently; he shall be exalted and extolled and be very high. 44 As many were astonished at thee–his visage was so marred, more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men—(Jehovah has ministered to mankind through many eternal lives and has suffered in body and spirit just as Jesus did in His ministry) 45 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him, for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider (the world has never known this story but they will consider it when it’s happening). 46 Verily, verily, I say unto you, all these things shall surely come, even as the Father hath commanded me. Then shall this covenant which the Father hath covenanted with his people (The seed) be fulfilled; and then shall (New) Jerusalem be inhabited again with my people (The believing Seed and Christians), and it shall be the land of their inheritance. 3 Nephi Chapter 21

(Jesus explains in great detail the gathering of Israel) And verily I say unto you, I give unto you (the House of Israel) a sign, that ye may know the time when these things shall be about to take place—that I (Jehovah and Jesus) shall gather in, from their long dispersion, my people, O house of Israel, and shall establish again among them my Zion; And behold, this is the thing which I will give unto you for a sign—for verily I say unto you that when these things which I declare unto you (the House of Israel), and which I shall declare unto you hereafter of myself, and by the power of the Holy Ghost which shall be given unto you of the Father, shall be made known unto the Gentiles (Christians) that they (the Christians) may know (via the scriptures and the prophecies of Jehovah) concerning this people (the Seed) who are a remnant of the house of Jacob, and concerning this my people (the Seed) who shall be scattered by them —(the Christians missionaries will cause a division among the seed between believers and non-believers); Verily, verily, I say unto you (House of Israel), when these things shall be made known unto them (the Gentiles/Christians) of the Father, and shall come forth of the Father, from them(the Christian Missionaries) unto you (the seed); For it is wisdom in the Father that they (the Christians) should be established in this land, and be set up as a free people (free because of the knowledge of the GMW and free from the chains of religious bondage) by the power of the Father, that these things might come forth from them (the Christian Missionaries) unto a remnant of your seed (the seed), that the covenant of the Father may be fulfilled which he hath covenanted with his people, O house of Israel; Therefore, when these works (the GMW) and the works which shall be wrought among you (the seed) hereafter shall come forth from the Gentiles (Christians),unto your seed(the seed) which shall dwindle in unbelief because of iniquity (the righteous people who were led away and have lost their true identity); For thus it behooveth the Father that it should come forth from the Gentiles (Christians), that he may show forth his power unto the Gentiles (Christians),for this cause that the Gentiles (Christians),if they will not harden their hearts, that they may repent and come unto me and be baptized in my name and know of the true points of my doctrine (These are the Christians who awaken and believe when Jehovah first stands up among men), that they (the Christians) may be numbered among my people (The believing Christians will be adopted into the House of Israel), O house of Israel; And when these things come to pass that thy seed shall begin to know these things— (the seed will begin to know these things when the Christian Missionaries bring the new records to the seed) it shall be a sign unto them (the seed), that they may know that the work of the Father hath already commenced (beginning with the Christians first) unto the fulfilling of the covenant which he hath made unto the people (seed) who are of the house of Israel. And when that day shall come, it shall come to pass that kings shall shut their mouths; for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider. For in that day, for my sake shall the Father work a work, which shall be a great and a marvelous work among them; and there shall be among them (the Christians first and the seed afterward) those who will not believe it, although a man (Jesus and Jehovah) shall declare it unto them. 10 But behold, the life of my servant shall be in my hand; therefore they shall not hurt him, although he shall be marred because of them. Yet I will heal him, for I will show unto them that my wisdom is greater than the cunning of the devil. 11 Therefore it shall come to pass that whosoever will not believe in my words, who am Jesus Christ, which the Father shall cause him to bring forth unto the Gentiles (Christians), and shall give unto him power that he shall bring them forth unto the Gentiles (Christians), (it shall be done even as Moses said) they shall be cut off from among my people (The House of Israel) who are of the covenant. (Next Jesus quotes Micah 5:8-14) 12 And my people (the seed) who are a remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles (Christians), yea, in the midst of them (the Christians) as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep (the unbelieving Christians), who, if he go through both treadeth down and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver (from the seed will come an army of God who will destroy the unbelieving Christians who fight against Zion). 13 Their hand (the seed) shall be lifted up upon their adversaries, and all their enemies (those who fight against Zion) shall be cut off. 14 Yea, wo be unto the Gentiles (Christians) except they repent; for it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Father, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots (the army of God will cut off the unbelievers in the great and terrible final wars); 15 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strongholds; (The prophecy of Micah in verses 12-15 above is regarding the seed which will destroy the unrepentant and wicked Christians.) 16 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thy land, and thou shalt have no more soothsayers; 17 Thy graven images I will also cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee (unbelieving Christians and their churches), and thou shalt no more worship the works of thy hands; 18 And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee (unbelieving Christians); so will I destroy thy cities. 19 And it shall come to pass that all lyings, and deceivings, and envyings, and strifes, and priestcrafts, and whoredoms, shall be done away. 20 For it shall come to pass, saith the Father, that at that day whosoever will not repent and come unto my Beloved Son, them (all who fight against Zion) will I cut off from among my people, O house of Israel (the gathering of all believers); 21 And I will execute vengeance and fury upon them (the unbelieving Christians), even as upon the heathen, such as they have not heard. 22 But if they (the unbelieving Christians) will repent and hearken unto my words, and harden not their hearts, I will establish my church among them, and they (the unbelieving Christians who have repented and become believers) shall come in unto the covenant and be numbered among this the remnant of Jacob (the seed), unto whom I have given this land for their inheritance; 23 And they (the believing Christians who are numbered with the House of Israel) shall assist my people (the seed), the remnant of Jacob, and also as many of the house of Israel as shall come, that they may build a city, which shall be called the New Jerusalem. 24 And then shall they(the believing Christians) assist my people (the seed) that they may be gathered in, who are scattered upon all the face of the land, in unto the New Jerusalem. 25 And then shall the power of heaven come down among them (the House of Israel comprised of the believing seed and Christians);and I (Jehovah and Jesus) also will be in the midst. 26 And then shall the work of the Father commence at that day, even when this gospel shall be preached among the remnant of this people (The dispersed or lost tribes of Israel). Verily I say unto you, at that day shall the work of the Father commence among all the dispersed of my people (the lost tribes of the House of Israel), yea, even the tribes which have been lost, which the Father hath led away out of Jerusalem. 27 Yea, the work shall commence among all the dispersed of my people (the last of the House of Israel to be gathered), with the Father to prepare the way whereby they (the dispersed lost tribes of Israel) may come unto me, that they may call on the Father in my name. 28 Yea, and then shall the work commence, with the Father among all nations (the dispersed) in preparing the way whereby his people may be gathered home (the last of the House of Israel to be gathered) to the land of their inheritance. 29 And they (the dispersed) shall go out from all nations; and they shall not go out in haste, nor go by flight, for I (Jehovah) will go before them, saith the Father, and I (Jesus) will be their rearward. 3 Nephi Chapter 22

(Jesus now quotes Isaiah chapter 54) 1 And then shall that which is written come to pass: Sing, O barren (the dispersed who are the Lost Tribes of Israel), thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child; for more are the children of the desolate (the dispersed) than the children of the married wife, saith the Lord (there are more people from the lost tribes who will gather into the House of Israel than have come from the Seed and the Christians combined). 2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thy habitations; spare not, lengthen thy cords and strengthen thy stakes; 3 For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left, and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles and make the desolate cities to be inhabited (the vast numbers of people coming from the Lost Tribes will inherit the lands formerly occupied by the unbelieving Christians who were destroyed). 4 Fear not, for thou (the dispersed/desolate Lost Tribes) shalt not be ashamed; neither be thou confounded, for thou shalt not be put to shame; for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more (the Lost tribes who were led away have suffered gravely because they rejected Jehovah in antiquity; worshiping graven images and practicing idolatry through generations).5 For thy maker, thy husband, the Lord of Hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel–the God of the whole earth shall he be called. 6 For the Lord hath called thee (the dispersed/desolate) as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God. 7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee, but with great mercies will I gather thee (the House of Israel includes the dispersed/desolate lost tribes who will be gathered last). 8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment, (God did not gather them at the beginning) but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer. 9 For this, the waters of Noah unto me, for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee (the dispersed/desolate lost tribes). 10 For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee (the lost tribes are not forgotten of the Lord and will be gathered as part of the covenant promise to the House of Israel). 11 O thou afflicted (the dispersed/desolate lost tribes), tossed with tempest, and not comforted! Behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires. 12 And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. 13 And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord (Jesus and Jehovah teaching them); and great shall be the peace of thy children. 14 In righteousness shalt thou (the dispersed/desolate lost tribes) be established; thou shalt be far from oppression for thou shalt not fear, and from terror for it shall not come near thee. 15 Behold, they (the Assyrian’s army) shall surely gather together against thee, not by me; whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. 16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work (Isaiah’s prophecy is absolutely pointing to Joseph Smith and the church he established which is the instrument Smith used for his work. Therefore, this has reference to the members who cling to the precepts of the Mormon church. After the desolate are gathered, God will turn to the Mormons who have suffered double and survived; they will be the last people God will gather in because they rejected Jehovah at the beginning of the GMW which commenced among the Mormons. Thus, the Mormons were the first to be offered the truth and they will be the last to be gathered); and I have created the waster to destroy (God allows the Assyrian to go throughout the world to destroy the wicked). 17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; (This is the very end of the gathering of Israel when the believing desolate lost tribes, the dispersed, and the Mormons will be gathered) and every tongue that shall revile against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. (3Nep 22)

The remainder of this multi-part paper will provide the reader with selections from the prophets as they addressed the many facets of the gathering of Israel described above by Jesus. We encourage the reader to ponderously study the verses we provide in their full context from the chapters where they are recorded. This is no ordinary or perfunctory undertaking. Each of us really must learn to understand the gathering of Israel and its import for all mankind. Failing to understand what Jesus and the prophets taught about this coming landmark event may prove our destruction if we fail to recognize the gathering when it begins, and we waste our opportunity to be gathered home. Decades of labor have been required to produce this blog. We share these things freely and without money or price, for that is the way the gospel of truth was intended to be shared with all of God’s children. This section will begin with verses from the Book of Mormon broken in appropriate categories and we’ll conclude with a collection of applicable verses from the Bible.

All People Must Repent and Believe in the Son

1 And now behold, my beloved brethren, I would speak unto you; for I, Nephi, would not suffer that ye should suppose that ye are more righteous than the Gentiles shall be. For behold, except ye shall keep the commandments of God ye shall all likewise perish; and because of the words which have been spoken ye need not suppose that the Gentiles are utterly destroyed.2 For behold, I say unto you that as many of the Gentiles as will repent are the covenant people of the Lord; and as many of the Jews as will not repent shall be cast off; for the Lord covenanteth with none save it be with them that repent and believe in his Son, who is the Holy One of Israel. (2 Ne 30)

7 I have charity for my people, and great faith in Christ that I shall meet many souls spotless at his judgment-seat. 8 I have charity for the Jew—I say Jew, because I mean them from whence I came. 9 I also have charity for the Gentiles. But behold, for none of these can I hope except they shall be reconciled unto Christ, and enter into the narrow gate, and walk in the strait path which leads to life, and continue in the path until the end of the day of probation. (2 Ne 33)

God’s Covenant with Abraham

18 Wherefore, our father hath not spoken of our seed alone, but also of all the house of Israel, pointing to the covenant which should be fulfilled in the latter days; which covenant the Lord made to our father Abraham, saying: In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. (1 Ne 15)

9 And it shall also be of worth unto the Gentiles; and not only unto the Gentiles but unto all the house of Israel, unto the making known of the covenants of the Father of heaven unto Abraham, saying: In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. (1 Ne 22)

14 And it shall come to pass that my people, which are of the house of Israel, shall be gathered home unto the lands of their possessions; and my word also shall be gathered in one. And I will show unto them that fight against my word and against my people, who are of the house of Israel, that I am God, and that I covenanted with Abraham that I would remember his seed forever. (2 Ne 29)

25 And behold, ye are the children of the prophets; and ye are of the house of Israel; and ye are of the covenant which the Father made with your fathers, saying unto Abraham: And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. 26 The Father having raised me up unto you first, and sent me to bless you in turning away every one of you from his iniquities; and this because ye are the children of the covenant— 27 And after that ye were blessed then fulfilleth the Father the covenant which he made with Abraham, saying: In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed—unto the pouring out of the Holy Ghost through me upon the Gentiles, which blessing upon the Gentiles shall make them mighty above all, unto the scattering of my people, O house of Israel. (3 Ne 20)

20 But behold, it shall come to pass that they shall be driven and scattered by the Gentiles; and after they have been driven and scattered by the Gentiles, behold, then will the Lord remember the covenant which he made unto Abraham and unto all the house of Israel. (Morm 5)

11 And then also cometh the Jerusalem of old; and the inhabitants thereof, blessed are they, for they have been washed in the blood of the Lamb; and they are they who were scattered and gathered in from the four quarters of the earth, and from the north countries, and are partakers of the fulfilling of the covenant which God made with their father, Abraham. (Ether 13)

The Righteous of Every Nation, Kindred, Tongue, and People will be Gathered

15 Nevertheless, when that day cometh, saith the prophet, that they no more turn aside their hearts against the Holy One of Israel, then will he remember the covenants which he made to their fathers. 16 Yea, then will he remember the isles of the sea; yea, and all the people who are of the house of Israel, will I gather in, saith the Lord, according to the words of the prophet Zenos, from the four quarters of the earth. 17 Yea, and all the earth shall see the salvation of the Lord, saith the prophet; every nation, kindred, tongue and people shall be blessed. (1 Ne 19)

24 And the time cometh speedily that the righteous must be led up as calves of the stall, and the Holy One of Israel must reign in dominion, and might, and power, and great glory. 25 And he gathereth his children from the four quarters of the earth; and he numbereth his sheep, and they know him; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd; and he shall feed his sheep, and in him they shall find pasture. 28 But, behold, all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people shall dwell safely in the Holy One of Israel if it so be that they will repent. (1 Ne 22)

12 And as I spake concerning the convincing of the Jews, that Jesus is the very Christ, it must needs be that the Gentiles be convinced also that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God; 13 And that he manifesteth himself unto all those who believe in him, by the power of the Holy Ghost; yea, unto every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, working mighty miracles, signs, and wonders, among the children of men according to their faith. (2 Ne 26)

8 And it shall come to pass that the Lord God shall commence his work among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people, to bring about the restoration of his people upon the earth. 9 And with righteousness shall the Lord God judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth. And he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. 10 For the time speedily cometh that the Lord God shall cause a great division among the people, and the wicked will he destroy; and he will spare his people, yea, even if it so be that he must destroy the wicked by fire. (2 Ne 30)

13 And the Lord God hath sent his holy prophets among all the children of men, to declare these things to every kindred, nation, and tongue, that thereby whosoever should believe that Christ should come, the same might receive remission of their sins, and rejoice with exceedingly great joy, even as though he had already come among them. 20 And moreover, I say unto you, that the time shall come when the knowledge of a Savior shall spread throughout every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. 21 And behold, when that time cometh, none shall be found blameless before God, except it be little children, only through repentance and faith on the name of the Lord God Omnipotent. (Mosiah 3)

28 And now I say unto you that the time shall come that the salvation of the Lord shall be declared to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. 29 Yea, Lord, thy watchmen shall lift up their voice; with the voice together shall they sing; for they shall see eye to eye, when the Lord shall bring again Zion. 30 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem; for the Lord hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. 31 The Lord hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. (Mosiah 15)

1 And now, it came to pass that after Abinadi had spoken these words he stretched forth his hand and said: The time shall come when all shall see the salvation of the Lord; when every nation, kindred, tongue, and people shall see eye to eye and shall confess before God that his judgments are just. (Mosiah 16)

25 And the Lord said unto me: Marvel not that all mankind, yea, men and women, all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, must be born again; yea, born of God, changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters; 26 And thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God. 27 I say unto you, unless this be the case, they must be cast off; and this I know, because I was like to be cast off. (Mosiah 27)

3 And these plates of brass, which contain these engravings, which have the records of the holy scriptures upon them, which have the genealogy of our forefathers, even from the beginning— 4 Behold, it has been prophesied by our fathers, that they should be kept and handed down from one generation to another, and be kept and preserved by the hand of the Lord until they should go forth unto every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, that they shall know of the mysteries contained thereon. (Alma 37)

21 Surely he hath blessed the house of Jacob, and hath been merciful unto the seed of Joseph. 22 And insomuch as the children of Lehi have kept his commandments he hath blessed them and prospered them according to his word. 23 Yea, and surely shall he again bring a remnant of the seed of Joseph to the knowledge of the Lord their God. 24 And as surely as the Lord liveth, will he gather in from the four quarters of the earth all the remnant of the seed of Jacob, who are scattered abroad upon all the face of the earth. 25 And as he hath covenanted with all the house of Jacob, even so shall the covenant wherewith he hath covenanted with the house of Jacob be fulfilled in his own due time, unto the restoring all the house of Jacob unto the knowledge of the covenant that he hath covenanted with them. 26 And then shall they know their Redeemer, who is Jesus Christ, the Son of God; and then shall they be gathered in from the four quarters of the earth unto their own lands, from whence they have been dispersed; yea, as the Lord liveth so shall it be. Amen. (3 Ne 5)

4 And I command you that ye shall write these sayings after I am gone, that if it so be that my people at Jerusalem, they who have seen me and been with me in my ministry, do not ask the Father in my name, that they may receive a knowledge of you by the Holy Ghost, and also of the other tribes whom they know not of, that these sayings which ye shall write shall be kept and shall be manifested unto the Gentiles, that through the fulness of the Gentiles, the remnant of their seed, who shall be scattered forth upon the face of the earth because of their unbelief, may be brought in, or may be brought to a knowledge of me, their Redeemer. 5 And then will I gather them in from the four quarters of the earth; and then will I fulfil the covenant which the Father hath made unto all the people of the house of Israel. (3 Ne 16)

10 And it came to pass that when they had all given glory unto Jesus, he said unto them: Behold now I finish the commandment which the Father hath commanded me concerning this people, who are a remnant of the house of Israel. 11 Ye remember that I spake unto you, and said that when the words of Isaiah should be fulfilled—behold they are written, ye have them before you, therefore search them— 12 And verily, verily, I say unto you, that when they shall be fulfilled then is the fulfilling of the covenant which the Father hath made unto his people, O house of Israel. 13 And then shall the remnants, which shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the earth, be gathered in from the east and from the west, and from the south and from the north; and they shall be brought to the knowledge of the Lord their God, who hath redeemed them. (3 Ne 20)

28 Yea, and then shall the work commence, with the Father among all nations in preparing the way whereby his people may be gathered home to the land of their inheritance. 29 And they shall go out from all nations; and they shall not go out in haste, nor go by flight, for I will go before them, saith the Father, and I will be their rearward. (3 Ne 21)

27 And behold they will be among the Gentiles, and the Gentiles shall know them not. 28 They will also be among the Jews, and the Jews shall know them not. 29 And it shall come to pass, when the Lord seeth fit in his wisdom that they shall minister unto all the scattered tribes of Israel, and unto all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, and shall bring out of them unto Jesus many souls, that their desire may be fulfilled, and also because of the convincing power of God which is in them. 30 And they are as the angels of God, and if they shall pray unto the Father in the name of Jesus they can show themselves unto whatsoever man it seemeth them good. 31 Therefore, great and marvelous works shall be wrought by them, before the great and coming day when all people must surely stand before the judgment-seat of Christ; 32 Yea even among the Gentiles shall there be a great and marvelous work wrought by them, before that judgment day. (3 Ne 28)

(Ether 13)

All the House of Israel will be Remembered

18 Wherefore, our father hath not spoken of our seed alone, but also of all the house of Israel, pointing to the covenant which should be fulfilled in the latter days; which covenant the Lord made to our father Abraham, saying: In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. (1 Ne 15)

16 Yea, then will he remember the isles of the sea; yea, and all the people who are of the house of Israel, will I gather in, saith the Lord, according to the words of the prophet Zenos, from the four quarters of the earth. 17 Yea, and all the earth shall see the salvation of the Lord, saith the prophet; every nation, kindred, tongue and people shall be blessed…. 24 Wherefore I spake unto them, saying: Hear ye the words of the prophet, ye who are a remnant of the house of Israel, a branch who have been broken off; hear ye the words of the prophet, which were written unto all the house of Israel, and liken them unto yourselves, that ye may have hope as well as your brethren from whom ye have been broken off; for after this manner has the prophet written. (1 Ne 19)

6 Nevertheless, after they shall be nursed by the Gentiles, and the Lord has lifted up his hand upon the Gentiles and set them up for a standard, and their children have been carried in their arms, and their daughters have been carried upon their shoulders, behold these things of which are spoken are temporal; for thus are the covenants of the Lord with our fathers; and it meaneth us in the days to come, and also all our brethren who are of the house of Israel. 7 And it meaneth that the time cometh that after all the house of Israel have been scattered and confounded, that the Lord God will raise up a mighty nation among the Gentiles, yea, even upon the face of this land; and by them shall our seed be scattered. 8 And after our seed is scattered the Lord God will proceed to do a marvelous work among the Gentiles, which shall be of great worth unto our seed; wherefore, it is likened unto their being nourished by the Gentiles and being carried in their arms and upon their shoulders. 9 And it shall also be of worth unto the Gentiles; and not only unto the Gentiles but unto all the house of Israel, unto the making known of the covenants of the Father of heaven unto Abraham, saying: In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. 10 And I would, my brethren, that ye should know that all the kindreds of the earth cannot be blessed unless he shall make bare his arm in the eyes of the nations. 11 Wherefore, the Lord God will proceed to make bare his arm in the eyes of all the nations, in bringing about his covenants and his gospel unto those who are of the house of Israel. 12 Wherefore, he will bring them again out of captivity, and they shall be gathered together to the lands of their inheritance; and they shall be brought out of obscurity and out of darkness; and they shall know that the Lord is their Savior and their Redeemer, the Mighty One of Israel. (1 Ne 22)

13 And out of weakness he shall be made strong, in that day when my work shall commence among all my people, unto the restoring thee, O house of Israel, saith the Lord. (2 Ne 3)

5 And now, the words which I shall read are they which Isaiah spake concerning all the house of Israel; wherefore, they may be likened unto you, for ye are of the house of Israel. And there are many things which have been spoken by Isaiah which may be likened unto you, because ye are of the house of Israel. (2 Ne 6)

1 And now, my beloved brethren, I have read these things that ye might know concerning the covenants of the Lord that he has covenanted with all the house of Israel— 2 That he has spoken unto the Jews, by the mouth of his holy prophets, even from the beginning down, from generation to generation, until the time comes that they shall be restored to the true church and fold of God; when they shall be gathered home to the lands of their inheritance, and shall be established in all their lands of promise. (2 Ne 9)

5 And then will I gather them in from the four quarters of the earth; and then will I fulfil the covenant which the Father hath made unto all the people of the house of Israel. (3 Ne 16)

26 And then shall the work of the Father commence at that day, even when this gospel shall be preached among the remnant of this people. Verily I say unto you, at that day shall the work of the Father commence among all the dispersed of my people, yea, even the tribes which have been lost, which the Father hath led away out of Jerusalem. 27 Yea, the work shall commence among all the dispersed of my people, with the Father to prepare the way whereby they may come unto me, that they may call on the Father in my name. (3 Ne 21)

14 And behold, they shall go unto the unbelieving of the Jews; and for this intent shall they go—that they may be persuaded that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God; that the Father may bring about, through his most Beloved, his great and eternal purpose, in restoring the Jews, or all the house of Israel, to the land of their inheritance, which the Lord their God hath given them, unto the fulfilling of his covenant;….. 20 But behold, it shall come to pass that they shall be driven and scattered by the Gentiles; and after they have been driven and scattered by the Gentiles, behold, then will the Lord remember the covenant which he made unto Abraham and unto all the house of Israel.
