The Great and Marvelous Work

AndersThe Great and Marvelous Work

A Preface

8 Behold, great and marvelous are the works of the Lord. How unsearchable are the depths of the mysteries of him; and it is impossible that man should find out all his ways. And no man knoweth of his ways save it be revealed unto him; wherefore, brethren, despise not the revelations of God. (Jacob 4:8)

Great and marvelous indeed are the works and revelations of the Lord.  This blog is our effort to share with everyone the things which we have searched diligently to find in the scriptures. At first our discoveries were like children’s steps, but we pressed forward following where the scriptures led us.

9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. 10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: (Isa 28:9-10)

With God’s help we learned to read and comprehend the cadence of the prophetic writers, and see into this tremendous mystery in the corpus of God’s Word. The story of the Great and Marvelous Work is everywhere! It’s absolutely everywhere in scripture once our eyes adjusted to the frequency of light in which the writers recorded their prophecies. A great labor was undertaken in the scriptures for more than a decade before any writing began and then we eventually joined forces which coalesced into this work.

…and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men (and women) of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God. (Alma 17:2)

The mysteries have come to light through the diligent efforts of a small band of friends who are seekers of truth based strictly on The Word of God. We collectively followed the counsel of the scriptures themselves to throw out the precepts and traditions of men (i.e. 2Nephi chapter 28), and we have learned to walk and run with confidence and let the light of the Holy Spirit shine on the glorious scriptures alone!  It is our desire to post summary papers written with our full understanding on the various topics associated with the Great and Marvelous work. We hope this effort will provide you the reader with KEYS to understand the forthcoming events, and simplify your journey of discovery.

An Introduction

The Great and Marvelous Work (GMW hereafter) is the single most critical revelation stitched into the fabric of scripture! As we searched The Word we discovered that many Old Testament prophets wrote about this coming cosmic event; the New Testament writers also wrote at length regarding the GMW; and the Book of Mormon (BOM) writers followed suit leaving us a panoramic view of the coming events. So why did these prophets and apostles invest so much time and labor to write into scripture something which the world at large doesn’t even recognize? Because it was a commandment from God to do so, and each of them had their own personal encounter with God, and many of them describe their cosmic visions where they learned about God’s final act among mankind. Their words are only veiled or obfuscated because of the traditions we have been taught. The GMW is a summary of the mysteries contained in the scriptures! We also call these mysteries the Isaiah Story. As you learn the mysteries in the scriptures then you’ll understand the Isaiah Story. These things go hand in hand and the mysteries in holy writ are only mysteries because our traditions have blinded us from understanding them.

For example, the Mormons have a tradition that the GMW began with the life of Joseph Smith and continues as a legacy of the Mormon faith. This tradition is totally unsubstantiated by the events foretold in prophecy. Many in the church have a terrible habit of taking verses out of context and applying those verses to whatever point they are trying to make. You can’t do that especially with the prophecies of Isaiah and the other supporting books of revelation. Isaiah wrote his book strictly about the GMW of the last days, and it’s not about any other subject. His revelation is the central pillar around which all of the other prophets and apostles based their record of the GMW. To prove the critical importance of Isaiah’s record, consider these words of Jesus Christ:

1 And now, behold, I say unto you, that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah. 2 For surely he spake as touching all things concerning my people which are of the house of Israel; therefore it must needs be that he must speak also to the Gentiles. 3 And all things that he spake have been and shall be, even according to the words which he spake. (3Nep 23:1-3)

The BOM prophet Nephi also spoke of the tremendous importance of Isaiah’s prophecy in the last days and of the time when men will know for certain that Isaiah’s prophecy has come to pass:

7 But behold, I proceed with mine own prophecy, according to my plainness; in the which I know that no man can err; nevertheless, in the days that the prophecies of Isaiah shall be fulfilled men shall know of a surety, at the times when they shall come to pass. 8 Wherefore, they are of worth unto the children of men, and he that supposeth that they are not, unto them will I speak particularly, and confine the words unto mine own people; for I know that they shall be of great worth unto them in the last days; for in that day shall they understand them; wherefore, for their good have I written them. (2Nep 25:7-8)

We intend to give you the KEYS you’ll need in order to see this watershed revelation in the clear light of day as it was intended by the writers of scripture. Many of them spoke specifically of the GMW. Here are some examples:

13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: 14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. (Isa 29:13-14)

7 For the time cometh, saith the Lamb of God, that I will work a great and a marvelous work among the children of men; a work which shall be everlasting, either on the one hand or on the other—either to the convincing of them unto peace and life eternal, or unto the deliverance of them to the hardness of their hearts and the blindness of their minds unto their being brought down into captivity, and also into destruction, both temporally and spiritually, according to the captivity of the devil, of which I have spoken. (1Nep 14:7)

8 And after our seed is scattered the Lord God will proceed to do a marvelous work among the Gentiles, which shall be of great worth unto our seed; wherefore, it is likened unto their being nourished by the Gentiles and being carried in their arms and upon their shoulders. (1Nep 22:8)

9 For in that day, for my sake shall the Father work a work, which shall be a great and a marvelous work among them; and there shall be among them those who will not believe it, although a man shall declare it unto them. 10 But behold, the life of my servant shall be in my hand; therefore they shall not hurt him, although he shall be marred because of them. Yet I will heal him, for I will show unto them that my wisdom is greater than the cunning of the devil. 11 Therefore it shall come to pass that whosoever will not believe in my words, who am Jesus Christ, which the Father shall cause him to bring forth unto the Gentiles, and shall give unto him power that he shall bring them forth unto the Gentiles, (it shall be done even as Moses said) they shall be cut off from among my people who are of the covenant. (3Nep 21:9-11)

15 Behold, when ye shall rend that veil of unbelief which doth cause you to remain in your awful state of wickedness, and hardness of heart, and blindness of mind, then shall the great and marvelous things which have been hid up from the foundation of the world from you—yea, when ye shall call upon the Father in my name, with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, then shall ye know that the Father hath remembered the covenant which he made unto your fathers, O house of Israel. 16 And then shall my revelations which I have caused to be written by my servant John be unfolded in the eyes of all the people. Remember, when ye see these things, ye shall know that the time is at hand that they shall be made manifest in very deed. 17 Therefore, when ye shall receive this record ye may know that the work of the Father has commenced upon all the face of the land. (Ether 4:15-17)

We will need to breakdown the traditions we have been taught and set aside all of our preconceived ideas of what the scriptures are about if we are going to see and understand the GMW or The Isaiah Story written into almost all of scripture. Otherwise they will seem like disjointed and unrelated books of scripture. Nothing could be further from the truth. All scripture can easily be expounded into one single story, because there is only one story being told and that story is the GMW. How is that possible you ask? The answer is extremely simple. The writers of scripture were granted views of God’s end time work and they wrote in types and shadows regarding the GMW when God himself will set His hand again the second time to come down to earth as a man and finish His own work in His vineyard. What has been shall be. Even Jesus’ ministry in the NT has been written in type and shadow of the ministry of Isaiah’s “servant” who is no more or less than God coming down to earth again.

22 And behold, this people will I establish in this land, unto the fulfilling of the covenant which I made with your father Jacob; and it shall be a New Jerusalem. And the powers of heaven shall be in the midst of this people; yea, even I will be in the midst of you. (3Nep 20:22)

34 Have they not said that God himself should come down among the children of men, and take upon him the form of man, and go forth in mighty power upon the face of the earth? (Msh 13:34)

You might be asking yourself, “What are the mysteries of the scriptures that are part of the GMW?” Those things would include The Father doing His own work. The doctrine of eternal lives and eternal progression. Understanding who the souls of no light are and God’s plan for them.  If we’re going to hope to come to terms with the truth, then we have to understand the Strong Delusion as Paul called it in 2 Thes 2:11, and all of its ramifications for Mormon theology and Christian traditions. We must also come to know the true nature of God, whose work this is, and we have written several posts to address these things. God has provided all the necessary knowledge in His written Word to prepare us for what is yet to come.

These are just some of the subjects we will discuss in this blog and we will provide KEYS so everyone can read the scriptures and understand them. None of this information is exclusive. It’s available to all without money and without price. Earlier in this post we mentioned God setting His hand again the second time to finish His work. We will close this introduction by sharing some of the verses which speak of this coming event as part of the Isaiah Story and we will explore all of these things together because our Savior commanded us to search Isaiah in order to become people of sound understanding.

10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. 11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. 12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. (Isa 11:10-12)

14 And behold, according to the words of the prophet, the Messiah will set himself again the second time to recover them; wherefore, he will manifest himself unto them in power and great glory, unto the destruction of their enemies, when that day cometh when they shall believe in him; and none will he destroy that believe in him. 15 And they that believe not in him shall be destroyed, both by fire, and by tempest, and by earthquakes, and by bloodsheds, and by pestilence, and by famine. And they shall know that the Lord is God, the Holy One of Israel. (2Nep 6:14-15)

17 And the Lord will set his hand again the second time to restore his people from their lost and fallen state. Wherefore, he will proceed to do a marvelous work and a wonder among the children of men. (2Nep 25:17)

1 But behold, there shall be many—at that day when I shall proceed to do a marvelous work among them, that I may remember my covenants which I have made unto the children of men, that I may set my hand again the second time to recover my people, which are of the house of Israel; 2 And the day that he shall set his hand again the second time to recover his people, is the day, yea, even the last time, that the servants of the Lord shall go forth in his power, to nourish and prune his vineyard; and after that the end soon cometh. (2Nep 29:1-2)

1 And now, behold, my brethren, as I said unto you that I would prophesy, behold, this is my prophecy—that the things which this prophet Zenos spake, concerning the house of Israel, in the which he likened them unto a tame olive tree, must surely come to pass. 2 And the day that he shall set his hand again the second time to recover his people, is the day, yea, even the last time, that the servants of the Lord shall go forth in his power, to nourish and prune his vineyard; and after that the end soon cometh. (Jac 6:1-2)

Our prayers and hopes are that regardless of whatever tradition or belief system we may have inherited or adopted that we can reason together as believers in the Word of God. Everything we could possibly want or need to know about the GMW is found in scripture. Some of it is only made available to the individual by the Holy Spirit of God resonating inside of them which brings them into the folds of God’s robe so to speak, so that one may see and hear ineffable things. Some things are best left unsaid because they are whispered by the Holy Spirit to our spirits as we read between the lines of holy writ, those most sublime mysteries of our existence and our walk with God. Remember Moroni’s words that, “… by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.”
